A suburb or postcode can narrow the search. An exact match may need a street address. What you type is not stored.

Your place in the system

Three layers, one place

The place you live sits inside a council, a state or territory, and the nation. Choose a level to see what it usually looks after.

Not always one office. Most issues involve more than one level, and no single office is responsible for every issue.

Local

Typically responsible for local roads, waste collection, parks and libraries, and for many local planning and building approvals.

Follow the record

From a question to a recorded outcome

Every step has a date and a source. A real record may leave steps out or take a different path.

Demonstration, not a real case

A question about a public service

What was requested, what was recorded and which source supports the statement? All text on this card is invented to show how a record is laid out.

  1. 1QuestionOpen

A member of the public asks what was done about a local public service, and what the record says. The exact wording is kept with its date.

  2. 2Delivered requestOpen

The request is delivered to the responsible office. The date and method of delivery are recorded. A request that is only scheduled is never shown as delivered.

  3. 3ReplyOpen

The office replies, or the record shows that no reply was received by the due date set under the adopted programme rule.

  4. 4CommitmentOpen

If the reply includes a commitment, its exact words, owner and dates are recorded, with milestones where they exist.

  5. 5Recorded outcomeOpen

The outcome is added only when evidence supports it, with its source and the date it was last checked.

“The action is described in this record. The review remains a separate step.”

Planned roles are not elected offices
